A Detailed Review On Depression
Disorder in mood is called depression. Depression can be described as the dominating feelings of hopelessness, sadness & worthlessness of the victim. This is a critical & alarming situation that most people, including women, men adults. Youngster even children are indulging in this serious disease. This affects the human being badly which directly affects their health and character.
Studies show that over 16 million Americans are getting affects of depression. Round about 7 percent of adults are indulging in depression every year. It is the important part of life when the victim’s feeling down. It is quite natural that moment of sadness & happiness comes in everyone’s life, to respond such moments according to the occasion are quite natural.
But if you feel miserable for a long time, constantly, then be sure, that this is not the normal thing. This is severe kind of depression & it is a serious medical condition, which needs the cure. Different people feel different disorder in different ways. Depression has different types. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, there are two most common types of depression:
1. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
2. Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD)
1-Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
In this situation, the patient remains constant in the state of sadness, despair, and emptiness for at least 2 weeks. This is a debilitating disease, means it will decrease and snatch your energy & strength. It affects your health and your personality badly. MDD is a kind of disease in which patient doesn’t feel any enjoyment even in the moments of happiness. The moments which were joyful for you, now they aren’t able to give you any happiness. People with major depression experience an almost constant state of sadness, emptiness, and despair for at least two weeks.
MDD is a debilitating disease that can seriously affect your health and well-being. If you have MDD, you may be unable to enjoy activities that you once found pleasurable. Due to MDD you may be suffering in eating, sleeping, working & connecting
Some people describe “Depression” as the mood disorder. But if take its definition from the professional, they describe it as “Major Depressive Disorder” or “Major Depression.” These are not general behaviors, but this needs medical condition. When you are recommended “Clinical Depression” it means they are suggesting you MDD. The symptoms and courses of this kind of disorder can be different in some cases. This depends on the behavior or some other factors. It can be said that MDD can be just 1 episode, or it can be cured.
MDD can be divided into 6 different categories for better understanding.

I. Major Depressive Disorder With Atypical Features
In this kind of MDD can gain the weight rapidly, increase in appetite, sleeping hours will increase. You will feel heaviness in your legs and arms and you will feel sensitivities towards rejection. MDD patients often remain depressed, but MDD atypical features patients feel the temporary emotions which are high for good news and low for the bad news. It gets its start from the teenage and continues until the adult age.
II. Major Depressive Disorder With Peripartum Onset
This type of depression happens often in pregnancy. It is calculated 3 to 6 percent of women experience this type of MDD during pregnancy or in the postpartum period. But the new research depicts that round about 50 percent of these intervals start before delivery. Firstly this type of condition was called postpartum depression. This type of MDD diagnosed during the pregnancy or 4 weeks after the delivery. The women who have such kind of MDD feel anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, a loss of appetite, sleeping problems, feelings of worthlessness & restlessness. This type can have the psychotic feature as well.
III. Major Depressive Disorder With Seasonal Patterns
MDD is called seasonal disorder, in which the patient experience depression for certain time of the year. Generally, people feel this type of depression in the fall of winter. Its symptoms will go away in the summer & spring.
IV. Major Depressive Disorder With Melancholic Features
MDD will develop the melancholic aspects if the below-mentioned symptoms gain the severity.
There are some signs & symptoms of this condition can be:
- The patient will feel a loss of pleasure in all or in the most activities.
- If something happens, they show no hand response.
- Psychomotor agitation, such as wringing pacing.
- Feelings of guilt
- Forgetfulness, insomnia
- Depression will increase in the morning
V. Major Depressive Disorder With Psychotic Features
MDD occurs with psychotic symptoms like delusions or hallucinations. The psychotics’ delusion merges with the feelings of depression. Often, the patients of MDD listens to the voices who say to them, that they are worthless and not able to live & don’t deserve to live.
VI. Major Depressive Disorder With Catatonia
In this type, the patients feel severe psychomotor disturbances. It has symptoms such as involve the sudden inability to move or an excessive amount of movement. Such movements have no purpose at all.
2-Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD)
PDD has few and milder signs than MDD. Both vary due to their severity and mildness of the symptoms, but it lasts more than MDD. These have following symptoms.
- Patient feels low self-esteem
- Patient feels hopelessness
- Lack of concentration
- feels the poor appetite
- Forgetfulness or insomnia
- Feelings of excessive sleep
- Feeling confuses while taking any decision.
- Hang in to-do or not-to-do.
- feels the lack of energy

There are some depressive disorders which can’t be included into MDD & PDD due to their different symptoms.
Unspecified Depressive Disorder
This type of person may have a different type of disorder traits & forms of depression.
Recurrent Brief Depression
In this state, the symptoms will go on 2-13 days. It happens one time in one month. It can be cured with therapy.
Adjustment Disorder With Depressive Features
This condition is temporary, not permanent. Some event or distressing moment can cause the psychological disorder.
Depression interferes with the daily routine as well interpret in your daily routine, because it is more than feeling down. Depression can cause some month, some years or it can adopt the worse form. People who are victims of the depression can get the cure by taking the proper treatment.
